WPL Industries B.V. has developed a range of solutions to monitor & totalise the flow rate of bulk products while they are transported along belt conveyors.

The unique WPL way of measuring high speed and high resolution immediately detects any changes in the flow of mass.

Belt weighers are automated systems designed to control, regulate and totalize continuous flow of bulk material. For this purpose a section of the belt is usually set up for weighing: (m/l) mass per unit belt length. A transducer establishes the displacement length (l). Multiplying the mass by length (m/l x l = m) measures in the mass transported by the belt. At the same time the belt speed and the displacement per time unit is repeatedly calculated (l/t). Subsequently the flow of mass is established (m/l x l/t = m/t).
During the process, the instruments offer a wealth of information including:

transported mass (m)
mass flow (m/s)
belt speed (l/t)
belt loading (m/l)

In addition, the product flow to the belt can be regulated by an on/off switch and/or by regulating the speed of the belt. This allows for the control of the flow of mass and measurement of the current mass. Digital outputs of the controller are can be used for example to switch motor drives, while analogue outputs can control the speed of the belt or a transporter screw. The mass can be controlled on the entire belt or on just a section of the belt, depending on the application.

Frequently these systems are used for bulk loading, in other words, for trade applications, they are fully certified in accordance with the current European Directive MID and O.I.ML.-recommendation R50. Once bulk material has been charged or discharged, it is very costly to recheck it in the event of inconsistencies. Therefore, totalizing and storage of this data is critical.
